Most founders don’t avoid work.
They avoid specific work.
And it’s usually the work that would change everything:
- posting content
- raising prices
- launching offers
- testing ads
- delegating
- selling more boldly
That isn’t laziness.
That’s identity protection.
What avoidance is really doing
Avoidance protects you from:
- judgement
- rejection
- failure
- feeling exposed
- being wrong publicly
- losing control
So your brain gives you a “productive” alternative:
- tweak the website
- reorganise tasks
- clean up the backend
- research competitors
- “prepare more”
It feels safe. It feels controlled.
But it delays growth.
The truth: growth requires discomfort reps
The way out isn’t to become fearless.
It’s to become the person who can act while uncomfortable.
That’s a skill.
And like any skill, it’s built with reps.
Try this: the Avoidance Map
Write this sentence and complete it:
“If I do this, I fear it will mean ____ about me.”
Then ask:
- is that objectively true?
- what’s the smallest version of this action I can do today?
- what would I do if I only needed a B+ result?
Don’t aim for perfect.
Aim for reps.
